stirred 15 other volcanoes on Java to erupt. On August 27, Krakatoa erupted again four times, the strongest of which
was heard 2100 miles away. Tidal waves 50'-120' high swept across Java and

"Every Evening" says: Despite the inclemency of the weather a large
concourse of people gathered here upon the banks of the Nanticoke yesterday morning to witness the
immersion by State -Evangelist English- the closing exercise of his work in
these parts. About 10.30 o'clock the Baptist church bell was rung, and the
streets were soon lined with people wending their way through the wind and
rain to the water front where in less than an hour eight persons received a
cold dip, and the old bell pealed forth its baptismal greetings. The
following is a list of those immersed: Miss Hennie
Hearn, Miss Mary and Miss Gertrude Millerd, Capt.
Samuel Phillips, George Robertson, Will Post, Frank Higgins and John Millerd. The ceremony will be repeated upon some others
some time February."
